STUDIO SISU*
STUDIO SISU* is a creation and production studio of ceramic objects specializing in tableware and pieces intended for interior decoration. Its collections are inspired by the Japanese Mingei tradition where not only the shapes but also the choice of decor seek to remain minimalist and organic.
STUDIO SISU* aim is to share the pleasure of living daily with objects that reflect know-how, aesthetics and singularity and where it is essential that the “handmade” aspect is always highlighted and without seeking to produce on a large scale.
Studio Sisu* seeks to highlight the sophistication of natural, an elegance without ornamentation or the formal precision of a molded object and where its productions seek to translate with each use the attachment awakened at the moment of their purchase. Because beautiful and unique should be part of everyday life. Beyond trends but rather by translating a lifestyle, the production of STUDIO SISU* focuses on raw materials such as stoneware, the favoured clay, due to its technical properties, resistance and the wide variety of colours and textures, which can reveal a wide range of aesthetic alterations when combined with the created reactive glazes.
At the head of STUDIO SISU* is Andrea Fraga, a product designer with a long career in the industrial design and a passion for raw materials. At the beginning of the 2000’s, during a trip to Iceland, the force of expression of the rock formations and the colours palette of the landscape particularly moved her by their simplicity, harmony and sense of balance, a natural power she had never witnessed before.
Afterwards, a real need for creative expression could only take shape through the artisanal work of soil and rock : the subtle association of clay plus a decorative element in the form of organic glazes and their firing process, all linked by their transformations and interactions. It was then in 2019 that she naturally joined the Centre de Céramique Bonsecours in Montreal for a three-year training course in artisanal ceramics. Following her graduation in 2022, she founded STUDIO SISU* in the heart of the industrial district of St Henri.
